Working Out for a Worthy Cause

Image of Purple Heart with text "Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc."

Since January, Don has worked tirelessly day in and day out to lose a goal weight of 30 lbs. He was working with owner Obe Roundtree of Full Circle Training in Bethlehem around the clock to reach his goal.

Elek is proud to announce our leader has lost a total of 22 pounds, and with support from IDWraps.com, the Italian American Bocce Club in Allentown, Bo, John Roebuck, Brian Cortright, and others, we have raised a total of $1,553! We thank and are so happy to have the support of our customers and vendors and know that without you, we could not hope to accomplish all we do for this great cause.

Our next challenge comes to us from James, one of our contract technicians. He’s known around the office for his four daughters; they’re the center of his world, and everyone knows it. They have visited us here in the office often and always add smiles to our faces with a break from the monotonous. Our heart goes out to him as his youngest daughter, Brynlea, has a disorder called childhood apraxia of speech.

She has difficulty with sounds, syllables, and words, caused by problems in the parts of the brain that control the planning of muscle movement used for speech. Brynlea knows what she wants to say, but her brain has difficulty with the coordination of the muscles she needs to say it.

With your donation, children in the Lehigh Valley, just like Brynlea, will have access to developmental tools and therapy needed to cope with this disorder. Brynlea goes numerous times to both speech and physical therapy and has even started to learn sign language to combat the effects of her disorder.

Although all this seems like a frustrating ordeal, James says, by her personality and love for fun, you would never know she has these problems. Please help Brynlea keep shining by clicking below to donate, and come see us at the walk in September.

The 2016 Lehigh Valley Walk for Children With Apraxia of Speech is being held on Sunday, Sept. 18, at Lone Lane Park. The Walk is open to all children and adults. For more information, visit http://casana.apraxia-kids.org/lehighvalleywalk or contact Heather Hamilton at [email protected].
