Every Child Deserves a Voice

James, one of our all-star contract technicians, is known around the office as the most doting of dads. James has four daughters who are the center of his world – and everyone knows it! He’s brought his girls to visit the office several times, and the smiles just spread like wildfire. Unfortunately, James’s youngest daughter, Brynlea, suffers from a brain disorder called Childhood Apraxia of Speech. She has difficulty with sounds, syllables, and words caused by miscommunication in the parts of the brain that control muscle movement. Brynlea knows what she wants to say, but her brain is unable to coordinate the muscles needed to verbalize her thoughts.

With your donation, children like Brynlea will have access to critical developmental tools and therapies needed to cope with this disorder. Brynlea goes to both speech and physical therapy numerous times a week, and has even started to learn sign language. While the inability to freely communicate is a struggle for affected children and families, James says he’s continually inspired by his daughter’s spirit. “You might expect a kid in this situation to be frustrated and angry, but Brynlea has the most vibrant personality and fun-loving spirit.”

To support Brynlea and all the other families dealing with Childhood Apraxia of Speech in the Lehigh Valley, we’re shining a light on this condition and asking for your support. We are proud to name Elek a sponsor of the 2016 Lehigh Valley Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech being held Sunday, September 18th at Lone Lane Park. The Walk is open to all children and adults. For more information please go to: http://casana.apraxia-kids.org/lehighvalleywalk or contact Heather Hamilton at [email protected] to find out how you can become a sponsor.
